The effect of the hundredth monkey

Long ago, in a distant town in Japan, there was a monkey named Emo. The monkeys, at that time, used to eat the dirty apples that they found on the ground of dusty gardens.

One day, by mistake, Emo washed the apple in the pond before eating it. From then on he washed every apple he was going to eat. The message went from Emo to a second monkey, then a third, and so on. Many monkeys began to wash the apples before eating them.

After a while, some neighboring monkeys from other towns also began to wash the apples before eating them. The day the hundredth monkey washed an apple and ate it, a strange phenomenon was observed throughout the country: all the monkeys began to wash the apples before eating them. Therefore, in that area, the critical mass was one hundred.

Once the critical mass was reached, the information spread like wildfire through each and every one of the monkeys, and they all began to wash the apples before eating them.
